Our story

Why

Good

Governance?

If you look at the recent history of our state and study past administrations, maybe over the last 30 years, it is fair to say that the administrations that have given a very high priority to elements of governance such as accountability, transparency, and responsiveness have been the administrations under which we have done better as a state.

We at the Cross River Movement see ourselves as essential partners with the government in Cross River State. We see ourselves as playing that role of helping to reduce the gap between the people of Cross River State and their government.

Good governance is important because it ensures accountability, transparency and fairness in decision making, and the management of public affairs. Good governance protects the rights of citizens and promotes the common good while also ensuring and encouraging economic growth and development.

Four Elements of Good Governance

ARTS

Accountability

Accountability is an assurance that an individual or organization is evaluated on its performance or behavior related to something for which it is responsible. We hold the government accountable by asking pertinent questions based on their promises.

Responsiveness

Democratic responsiveness measures the degree to which governmental policies match public preferences. We evaluate the quality of government responsiveness to the needs of the people it serves.

Transparency

Transparency means that decisions taken and their enforcement are done in a manner that follows rules and regulations. It also means that information is freely available and directly accessible to those who will be affected by such decisions and their enforcement.

Stakeholder Engagement

A stakeholder is any person or organization that is affected by or has a legitimate interest in a specific project or policy decision. We encourage all stakeholders to purposely and periodically engage with the government.

Our Approach

Together we can create the Cross River State of our dreams by engaging stakeholders for Good Governance
